The renowned estate of Lafite Rothschild situated within Bordeaux France is possessed by members from the Rothschild family who are well-known as bankers. The name Lafite originates from the actual Gascon expression 'la hite' which means little hill.

In 1797 the property was offered to a group of Nederlander traders.





It was not until 1868 that the vineyards were sold to Baron James Mayer Rothschild at a value of Four.4 million francs. It had been then that the estate was named Chateau Lafite Rothschild. Unfortunately Baron Wayne died just three months after buying the famed property and Lafite was passed to his 3 sons Edmond, Alphonse and Gustave. The 20th century saw high and low periods with regard to Lafite Rothschild . The estate was occupied by the German army during the Second World War have been responsible for the depletion of wines in the cellars of the property .







During recent times Lafite Rothschild has gone from strength to strength , cementing it's reputation as one of the world's finest wines. Actually the record cost paid for a single bottle associated with wine was a 1787 bottle of Chateau Lafite which was believed to be owned by Jones Jefferson. It was sold for $156,000at public sale .



Lafite Rothschild is also a firm favorite in the Far East where the new found wealth has seen a significant surge in demand both for drinking as well as investment.
